Donations

We are very grateful to those whose generous donations mean we are just able to cover our costs at present. To run the church currently costs £140 per day, or £51,000 per year. The average weekly giving per person is as follows:

  • St. Helen’s – £10.15
  • Diocese of York – £10.00
  • National – £13.00

Donations can always be made in church, via the collection plate. However, if you are able to support St. Helen’s on a regular basis, we would be very grateful. This can be done using a standing order. If you are a UK tax payer, you can increase your gift to us by 25% (at no extra cost to you). All details are available on printed cards available on the pews.

Quinquennial Inspection Report 2019

In accordance with the Inspection of Churches Measure, earlier this year, the 5 yearly inspection of St. Helen’s church took place. The report highlighted items which are in need of attention. Some examples of the work which needs to be done are provided below.

The Tower base & West doorway Stonework replacement is estimated to cost £3,000.

The South Entrance Porch Stonework replacement is estimated to cost £5,000.

The South Aisle windows Stonework replacement is estimated to cost £5,000.

As the cost of these repairs runs into the thousands of pounds it will be necessary to raise additional funds to cover the cost. One way we can achieve this is through fundraising campaigns outside of church. If you would like to run your own campaign, we would be grateful for any and all contributions. Some ideas for fundraising might include:

  • Ticketed dinner
  • Jumble sale
  • Craft fayre
  • Sponsored physical activities, such as swim, cycle or dog walk
  • Raffle
  • Sponsored sleepover
  • Bake off – cakes or quiches!
  • Social media or online crowdfunding
  • Ladies pamper night
  • Summer BBQ
  • Quiz night with hog roast
  • Singathon
  • ‘Guess the time the church clock will stop next’!
